Her Moves | 800 Mayo girls try boxing.

800 teenage girls from schools across Mayo took part in boxing taster sessions as part of Her Moves Girls Active Festival, hosted by Mayo Sports Partnership at Mayo An Sportlann GAA Club.

For many of the girls, this was their very first introduction to boxing, learning the basics, having a go and experiencing what boxing can offer them.

Connacht Club Support & Participation Manager, Maeve Clarke, says “What a brilliant day it was! The energy, enthusiasm and willingness to give it a go was incredible. I was incredibly proud to have such a fantastic Mayo boxing team delivering the sessions alongside me. The girls were also inspired by our young champions and the message that boxing is for everyone it builds confidence, resilience, discipline, fitness and friendships.’

Maeve was assisted in delivering boxing taster session by Myles Cresham, Head Coach Castlebar BC, two time Irish champion, Kirsten Cresham, European U23 silver medalist, Natalia Fascizewsaka and Coach, Junior Popiel.

Maeve adds “The level of interest generated in female boxing was fantastic, with lots of girls expressing an interest in getting involved with their local clubs. That is exactly what days like this are about: opening the door, giving girls the opportunity to try something new, and hopefully inspiring the next generation of female boxers.’
