Nominations | European Boxing Athletes Commission

European Boxing is establishing an Athletes Commission, and Boxing Ireland has been invited to nominate an athlete to serve on the Commission.

Boxing Ireland’s nominated athlete will then stand for election against nominees from other Federations, with the results announced at the European Championships in Sofia.

This is an exciting opportunity to shape the future of European Boxing, and to gain transferable sports management and governance skills. You’ll be representing your peers in Ireland, Boxing Ireland as your National Federation, as well as athletes across Europe.

You’ll shape policy and the development of elite boxing in Europe.

We want to ensure that our High Performance athletes have the opportunity to put themselves forward and to select the athlete they would like to represent them.

Who can self-nominate?

All eligible High Performance (HP) boxers can self-nominate for the position. And any athlete that has represented Ireland at a Senior Elite European Championship, World Championship, or Olympic Games, since January 1st 2017.

If you would like to be considered, you should submit your nomination within the nomination period

How will the athlete be selected?

The process will be completed within 7 days:

Nominations open | Eligible boxers can self-nominate until midnight on Tuesday August 25th. Athletes must present a short motivational letter explaining their vision for European Boxing, and their relevant experience. Simply fill out the nomination form below via the link.

Candidates confirmed | Once nominations close, the names of all eligible candidates will be circulated to HP athletes for voting. Only current HP athletes will be eligible to vote.

Secret ballot | If there is more than one candidate, HP boxers will vote by secret ballot. Each athlete will have one vote. The vote will take place on Thursday August 27th.

Result | In case there is one candidate, the candidate will be elected unopposed. In case there are two candidates, the candidate receiving the greatest number of valid votes will be selected. In case there are three or more candidates, an absolute majority of votes (50% +1 of all votes) must be received in round 1 to win the nomination outright. If a candidate does not receive an absolute majority, a second round of voting will take place. In round 2, a simple majority applies, meaning the candidate with the most votes wins. A 5 minute break will occur between voting rounds.

Tie | In the event of a tie for first place after round 2, a coin toss will take place.

Board of Directors ratification | The successful candidate will be presented to the Board of Boxing Ireland for ratification.

European Boxing nomination | Following ratification, the successful athlete will be formally nominated by Boxing Ireland to serve on the new European Boxing Athletes Commission. A number of nomination forms are required for completion before midnight on Sunday August 30th .

If only one eligible athlete self-nominates, that athlete will be put forward as the successful candidate without the need for a ballot, subject to Board ratification.
