70 young people have today taken part in a Try It! boxing taster class for people with additional needs.
The event was organised and administered by Boxing Ireland’s Belfast Community coaches, Brendan Irvine and Patrick Gallagher and took place at Holy Trinity Boxing Club – and the club’s coaches were vital in lending their expertise to make the day a success for all participants.
More than 70 young people special educational schools Clarawood, St Gerard’s and Mitchell House took part, each receiving a fun, safe introduction to the sport of boxing tailored to individuals needs and abilities.
The event highlighted boxing’s innate inclusivity, reinforcing that the sport is for everyone and was part of Boxing Ireland’s Try It! series of programmes. These are originated and delivered by Belfast Community coaches and are designed to provide a pathway in to boxing for communities who may not otherwise encounter our sport, including those in older age, women, children and adults with additional needs, and teenage girls.
This Boxing Ireland initiative has been proudly supported by Belfast City Council
