Registration is now open for Boxing Ireland’s Coaching Teenage Girls Workshop, as part of Women in Sport Week 2026.
This workshop is open to all coaches and focusses on retention of teenage girls, the psycho-social needs of teenage girls in sport, practical strategies to foster the coach/athlete relationship and the affect puberty has on the mind and body of teenage girls and how can coaches support this.
The workshop takes place online on Thursday, March 26th, between 6pm and 9pm
Workshop Content
Delivered in an interactive format, the workshop offers opportunities for experience sharing while equipping coaches with best practice solutions they can adapt to their own setting.
Organised into 4 sections, the content categories are:
- What we know about Teenage Girls in Sport and the Role of the Coach
- Inside the Body and Mind of Teenage Girls
- The Coaching Environment
- Opportunities beyond the Workshop
A selection of the topics covered include:
- Reasons girls engage and disengage from sport
- The Menstrual Cycle: A guide to supporting teenage girls in sport
- Factors to consider in creating a positive coaching environment
- Language Do’s and Don’ts
- Factors that influence teenage girl’s participation in sport
