Appointment | High Performance Coach

Boxing Ireland is delighed to welcome JP Delaney to his role as High Performance Coach.

This role contributes to to the planning, delivery, monitoring, and evaluation of training and competition programmes within the Boxing Ireland High Performance Unit. The role supports the achievement of international performance objectives by preparing male and female boxers to compete successfully at major championships while contributing to the implementation of the Boxing Ireland High Performance Strategy.

JP was a competitive boxer with Immaculata BC, Belfast, and has boxed internationally representing Ulster and Ireland. His club coaching career included a Head Coach position at Emerald BC.

JP says “This is a real full-circle moment for me. I’ve come through the system from grassroots to High Performance as a boxer, and I’ve also had the privilege of coaching at both grassroots and Ulster High Performance level. To now step into this role is a huge honour. I’m looking forward to working with such a talented group of athletes and staff, and to helping our boxers continue to perform and succeed on the international stage.”

High Performance Director, Jon Mackey, says “JP has honed and developed his coaching abilities at club level and in the Ulster programme. This appointment is a natural progression for him. I, and the coaching staff, are delighted to welcome him to High Performance as a full-time colleague where he will, no doubt, have a major positive impact on the progression and development of HP athletes.”

JP was appointed following a recruitment process which began in January, 2026.
