Appointment | Pathway Development Lead

Boxing Ireland is delighted to announce the appointment of Daithi McCabe as Pathway Development Lead.

This role is the first of its kind in Boxing Ireland and will ensure that youth and development athletes (U17, U19, U23) are supported with appropriate programmes, resources, and opportunities to transition successfully into senior elite boxing and the High Performance Unit (HPU). The Pathway Development Lead will also enhance support for athletes beyond performance alone, with an emphasis on education, scholarships, and personal development, ensuring a holistic pathway experience.

Daithi joins Boxing Ireland with over a decade of experience working within academy settings across sport, from sub-academy to elite academy spaces in Ireland and Australia.

A former competitive boxer and a founding member of Esker Boxing Club, Dublin, Daithi says “Boxing is my sport, and it’s an honour to be in a position to bring my pathway development experience  to Boxing Ireland to support the growth and achievement of high potential underage athletes. I’m very much looking forward to working closely with Central Council, and with clubs, to create the best advancement environment possible for the Olympians of the future”

Boxing Ireland President, Anto Donnelly, says “Daithi’s appointment marks a significant step forward for Boxing Ireland and our commitment to building a strong, sustainable pathway for young athletes. His experience and understanding of athlete development make him an ideal fit for this role. We are confident that his work with our clubs, coaches, and High Performance structures will help create an environment where talented boxers can thrive both inside and outside the ring, and ultimately fulfil their potential at elite level.”

High Performance Director, Jon Mackey, says “Daithi’s is a pivotal appointment for Boxing Ireland and for the future of our High Performance pathway. This role will help create a clear and structured bridge between underage and elite competition, giving young athletes the support, guidance and opportunities they need to transition successfully to senior level. Pathway development is a key strategic priority for us, and Daithi’s work will strengthen collaboration between Central Council, clubs and High Performance, while also providing athletes with greater clarity and confidence in how they can progress from Junior through to Elite boxing. I’d also like to acknowledge Sport Ireland’s invaluable contribution to the creation of the Pathway Development Lead role”
