Historic Camp Begins in Belfast.

The biggest camp ever to take place on the island of Ireland has gotten underway today.

Boxing Ireland’s Commonwealth Games camp is designed to afford Team NI Boxing the best possible preparation ahead of the 2026 Glasgow Commonwealth Games. Boxing is Team NI’s most successful sport, having won 61 CWG medals, of which 13 are gold.

This training camp, taking place at the Newforge Sports Hub & Events Centre, will include 4 sparring days, school combat sessions, strength and condition sessions and an anti-doping workshop.

The camp will also include two open days, which clubs may attend to watch top-class sparring, and a media event.

The participation federations are:

Team NI Boxing; Team Ireland; Australia; Canada; Fiji; France; Ghana; GB; India; Mauritius, Nigeria, New Zealand; Scotland; Soloman Islands, Switzerland; Tonga; Tuvalu; Zambia.

The 2026 camp follows on from the 10 nation camp which took place in Belfast in preparation for the Birmingham Games, where Team NI topped the medal table, with 5 golds and silver and a bronze.

The Team NI Glasgow team includes three Birmingham veterans: 57kg champion, double Olympian Michaela Walsh, featherweight champ and Paris Olympian, Jude Gallagher – now contesting at 60kg, and Star’s JP Hale.

There are just 18 days to go until the first bell in Glasgow: the boxing programme begins at the SEC Centre on the Scottish Event Campus on July 24th, running until August 1st. July 30th is a rest day.

Afternoon Sessions will, typically, begin at 11am and Evening Sessions at 6pm
